Hello December

You are allowed to reinvent yourself as many times as you want.

My big sister and I (ousie), as I call her, loved playing pretend.

She had the most vivid imagination.

Sometimes we would be on an adventure through an enchanted forest, scaling mountains and jumping across lakes of fire, or we would run away from “Pinky Pinky”.

With flowing skirts on our heads, we would be princesses (the skirts on our heads are a conversation for another day 😆).

We would be whatever and whomever we wanted to be.

We would act out those roles and live in those worlds for as long as we could.

We had the power to create the narrative of that day.

We chose who would play which character and how the adventure would pan out, and then we would improvise along the way.

Interjecting to add more flavour and spice to the stories and adapting characters to the day’s circumstances.

I miss those days of carefree playing, living boldly and creating the world around us.

As we grow older, our imagination is somewhat silenced. We tell ourselves that this is the real world now.

This is reality.

And somehow, we live as though we do not have the choice to change the narrative of our lives.

The truth is that we do.

That imagination we had as children still lives in us; the ability to dream and create never died.

We have the power to be whomever we want to be, and we can reinvent ourselves as often as we want to.

We are the protagonists of our lives and have the right to change, shift, add, remove and adjust whatever we want.

Knowing whom you are beginning with getting to know yourself-

Take the time to ask yourself what you like and don’t like.

Asking yourself questions and taking the time to allow those answers to sink in.

Like the questions, you would ask someone on a first date, begin to answer those questions for yourself.

What would your perfect day look like?

What would you like to do if money and time were not an option?

What is your love language?

Then begin to live like that person, creating the life that person would love to live.

One step at a time.

Make it colourful, make it riveting, make it spectacular.

Make it the way you wish it to be.

The life we have is what we choose to make of it.

Like the serenity prayer says-

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.”

There are some things you won’t be able to change because they are not in your power as they are things that happen TO you.

However, you do have the power to change how you perceive them.

As 2022 ends, take time to reflect and take stock of the things that happened.

Asses the person you have become and what influenced those changes.

-What do you like?

-What don’t you like?

-How can you improve?

My sister and I wove through the house, creating the ideal world to play in.

Remember that you can also create the world you want to live in.

It will be scary at first, but no great adventure is without a little bit of fear.

Jump in and start living your greatest adventure.

YOUR life.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

-Ephesians 2:10-
