One of my favorite shows growing up was the Powerpuff girls, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup were super girls who fought crime and monsters to make the world a better place. In one particular episode a gruesome monster took over the city and the only way they were able to defeat it was though love…As they sang “Love makes the world to go round” the monster stopped destroying the city and began to dance along with them.
“Love is an action, never simply a feeling.” -Bell Hooks-
If we say we love someone and never show them that love how will they know that we love them? This also includes self love.Loving is a conscious choice that we make… it involves will, it involves purpose.
We choose to love.
So how do we love when we don’t know what love is? How do we give something we don’t have? If you have not taken the time to find out what love means to you, how will you know what love is when it comes knocking at your door?
You can’t…
The media has given us images of love which is usually focused on romantic love. They meet, they hit it off instantly, they discover a hidden lie, they fight, there is a huge romantic gesture (running to the airport to declare their love and overcoming all odds), they live happily ever after.

Imagine if they had taken time to learn what love means to them individually, imagine if they had taken the time to communicate that love to one another, imagine if they had token the time to show one another love according to the others love language
.
Love is powerful and where there is love there is no hatred, where there is love there is justice, where there is love there is truth.
We need to take time to understand what love means to ourselves so that we can effectively communicate that to others.Learning to love takes time, do not expect to receive the love from someone else that you do not give to yourself.Learn to spend time with yourself learning what you like and what you don’t like.Learn to do big romantic gestures for yourself (you deserve it
).
So as we enter the month of February where we shall be bombarded by images of “love” everywhere remind yourself that the longest relationship that you will ever have is the one you will have with yourself.Nurture it.Invest in it.
You can not give what you don’t have and you can not receive what you never identified.
Love is not a feeling it’s an act of your will.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35 NKJV
